The journal / WalkingA day without
an itinerary.
Start with one place you would like to see, and leave the rest of the day open. A loose plan gives you a direction without turning every hour into a deadline.
Follow the landscape
Choose a public trail that suits your experience. Check the forecast, carry water and a map, and allow time to return before dark. On an unfamiliar route, a short walk can reveal just as much as a long one.
Stop for the ordinary
A market stall, the shape of a doorway, the sound of a river: these details give a place its character. Put the camera away for a while and let yourself notice them.
Bring back a note
Write down three things at the end of the day. They need not be remarkable. A few honest sentences will often preserve a memory better than a hundred photographs.
